Euan Uglow

Another artist that's starting to be a big influence on my work, he has almost a geometric approach to the figure, and would sustain paintings for years. Uglow is part of the Slade school in the UK, where Lucien Freud and Frank Auerbach came out of as well. His teacher was William Coldstream, who was also an amazing painter, and it's easy to see the influence he had on Uglow.

Stefan- thanks for the link, the figures look a lot like Lucien Freud's work.

Alan- nice blog site, this is my first stop. Just wanted to say that Uglow also was the teacher/mentor of Graham Nickson, he gave a lecture in 93 at NYSS, it was intense- he was a weird creepy dude.......but yeah, your basically right on about the geometric/planar breakdown of the figures. He has been influencing my work as well for some time. Keep this stuff going man.

Hey Will, thanks for stopping by. How would you describe Uglow's work? I knew Graham studied with him. Did you see a video of the lecture? You lucky dog!
