I just got a chance to hear a lecture by Jerome Witkin on Friday. I've been a fan for a long time so it was great to hear him speak in person. He quoted Alice Neel about the criticism of her work; "If they are going to shoot me anyway, I'd rather die like a wolf instead of a sheep." Being able to see some of these artists that I admire has been one of the highlights of being on the East coast.
